Description: Karula National Park is the smallest in Estonia. Cultural landscapes of Karula are a type of landscape, which have formed as a result of human activities during hundreds of years. Natural landscapes are made up of forests, lakes and swamps. A great number of lakes formed in the Karula uplands when ice-sheets started to retreat, 40 of the lakes are in the boundaries of Karula National Park. The biggest lake is Lake Ähijärv (176 ha) and the deepest lake is Lahe Savijärv (Clay Lake, 18 m).
